For those of you who are riding in the Judged Pleasure Ride - please arrive in time to be READY TO RIDE OUT AT 10 a.m..  This isn't a paper chase so, rather than allowing you to show up anytime and ride out, we will be sending you out in groups every 5 minutes.  The ride should take you about 2 -3 hours  if you walk the whole thing. It is about 7 miles.   All obstacles are optional, so just plan on having fun!

Costume Contest!!

For those of you who have already entered or are going to enter, we are adding an optional costume contest element to the JPR!
Come in costume - you and/or your horse - or you can put it on after the ride. Winners will be decided with voting by your fellow competitors. If you are going to wear it during
the ride, make sure it is trail compatible and won't interfere with your horse - SAFETY FIRST!
Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Obstacle practice day

9/7/2016

On September 18, 2016 we will be hosting an Obstacle Practice Day at the farm of CeCe Grimes between Cochranville and Parkesburg.  CeCe has a wonderful play area set up with various obstacles you might find on the trail. at our JPR, in a Trail class or an ACTHA ride.  This is a perfect opportunity to introduce your horse to those scary and not so scary things in a low key, fun environment.  Trainer/Instructor Elyssa Doner of IdleWild Farm in Atglen, PA will be on hand to help you and your horse if you need her.  She has a low key, natural approach to horsemanship that you will appreciate.  It promises to be a fun day!  We will be providing drinks and snacks, and the play area will be open from 10-2.  Each Rider/Handler may bring up to 2 horses.
P.S. Cece's farm is for sale if you are interested!

It is almost Social Time again!

Can you believe it is winter again? The holidays are over and the frigid days stretch out before us.  That is why it is the perfect time to get together with friends and fellow horse lovers at our annual SE District Social!
We are having it earlier this year on Saturday, February 6. This is to accommodate the travel schedule of SE Director Jan Williams (who is escaping to Florida as much as possible!), and to avoid a conflict with the PA Horse World Expo and President's weekend. Unfortunately, it coincides with the ECTRA Banquet that several of our members will be going to.  There always seems to be something going on somewhere!

As usual, we will be having our Social at New Bolton.  It will be in the cafeteria and Alumni Hall again.  This is where we had it last year, and also had our joint meeting and dinner with ECAHS last fall.  Please cross your fingers that we don't get snow again this year!! We have no snow date!

This year we are excited to host a presentation with Sue McDonnell from New Bolton on the semi-feral Shetland Pony herd that is on the grounds.  She will give us an interesting look into the herd dynamics and what they have discovered about the adaptation of  these ponies to their environment. Sue may give us some insight as to the care that our own horses receive and the impact of the environment we provide for them.

Chinese Auction!  This year we be giving you the chance to clean out some of your unwanted items from your tack room and home!  Since we have very nearly exhausted our welcome with our local business, this year we are going back to our roots.  Your donations will be the basis of our Chinese Auction this year.  However, if anyone wants to donate lessons, breedings, services, etc, they would be very welcome!

Dessert Competition!  In past years we had a cooking competition where attendees brought delicious entrees, salads and desserts to be judged and prizes were awarded.  That involved ovens and ways of keeping food hot or cold. It worked when we held our Social at locations with an accessible kitchen.  Since we have been coming to New Bolton, that has not been possible and frankly, interest had waned.  This year, however, we want to bring back the dessert portion of the competition.  If you would like to fire up your skills and your oven (or fridge or whatever) to make a dessert and bring it the Social, you can enter it and have the chance of winning a fabulous prize!  If you would like to bring a purchased dessert to share, that will be welcome also!

Lunch! Once again we will providing light lunch along with drinks and snacks.

Please RSVP on our events page so we have an approximate count for food.
We hope to see you on February 6!!

Judged pleasure ride a great success!

We had a great day for our ride, although a bit cold and windy.  We ended up with a few more riders than we planned on, but it all went well.  Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the majority of the horses did really well at the obstacles!  In fact, most horses were more startled by our judges or their chairs or a mud puddle than any planned obstacles!  Too funny!  We had a Trick or Treat for treasures hidden on the property after the main ride, but most people were ready to get off their horses and cook hot dogs and marshmallows and socialize than participate.  Which was fine with us - we wanted everyone to enjoy themselves.
We did have a small problem with someone (non-rider) moving the trail markers at a critical spot, which led to a few riders getting temporarily lost.  Oh, and perhaps a foxhunt caused a few anxious moments for some as well.  We didn't know it was going  to be going through  there.  All in all, however, it was a great day and thank you again to all of our riders and volunteers!  Thank you to ChesLen Preserve also for allowing us to use their beautiful property!!

Judged pleasure Ride

It is almost time for our  Judged Pleasure Ride this Sunday, October 19.  This fun event is taking place near Unionville, and will take horses and riders over the beautiful countryside of southern Chester County and Cheshire Hunt country.  Several interesting obstacles await to test your mount's skills  while you are riding our trail.  Please be aware that ALL obstacles are voluntary and you are free to choose not to participate in one or all of them. However, if you do choose to, you will accumulate points which will determine the winners of each division.  Divisions will be finalized depending on entries received.  There will be at the  minimum a Purebred Arabian , a Half-Arabian and  a Non-Arabian Division (Others).  Divisions with regard to gender of horse are probable.  Only Arabians and Half-Arabians will be eligible for Ride Champion and Reserve Champion.

After the Pleasure Ride, we will have an additional game (voluntary of course) that we will describe at the Ride Briefing. (Great prizes can be won!)  In addition, we will have our Weiner and Marshmallow Roast. Yum! Good times are usually had by all!

It looks like (knock on wood) that the weather is going to cooperate!  Don't forget to bring a chair and WATER FOR YOUR HORSE!

In the event that you do not wish to stay until the Awards ceremony, please know that we do not mail ribbons. So, please have someone that can accept for you!
